I can understand that. While there are a number of films that have historical figures who are killed or assassinated, those movies they are usually either the focus of the film, or a distant figure whose death impacts the protagonist.

I can't recall anything quite like this, where someone is not centered, but exists as secondary character whose thriving delivers both a sense of contrast to the the lives of the main characters, but also a sense of impending doom.
